Addo Elephant National Park

Description:

Addo Elephant National Park is a great self drive destination, discovering the bush at your own pace.  Located in the Eastern Cape, Addo Elephant Park is situated in a malaria free environment.  With more than 450 elephants as well as lion, cape buffalo, black rhino, warthogs, various antelope species and dung beetles.  Addo Elephant National Park offers a true African experience easily accessible.  

At Addo Elephant National Park you will also find accommodation with various camp sites, chalets and rondavels.  Activities include game drives, bird watching and hiking trails.  The Addo Elephant Park was proclaimed in the 1931 starting out with just 11 Elephant in the original Elephant section. Today at this game park 5 of Africa`s seven major vegetation biomes and the Big 7, Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Rhino, Whale and the Great White Shark can be found.

Camps:

- Addo Rest Camp, the main rest camp of the Park offers a fuel station, a curio shop with snacks and basic supplies, an al-la-carte restaurant, swimming pool, picnic and braai (barbeque) area, a public telephone, a post box, a First National Bank ATM and a underground wildlife viewing hide.

- Kobouga, is surrounded by rugged mountains and dense vegetation

- Matyholweni, in Xhosa meaning "in the bush" is located near a coastal town Colchester at the Sundays River Mouth.  Here you can find amenities at shops, restaurants and a fuel station in the nearby town.

- Narina, a forest at the foot of the Zuurberg Mountains and on the banks of the Wit River.

- Woody Cape, the Langebos huts are available to hikers on the 2 day Alexandria Hiking Trail.

- Luxury 2 Lodges, found in a number of SANParks camps and parks.
