Ten ways to help save water in the Eastern Cape

Ten ways to help save water in the Eastern Cape

Currently the Eastern Cape`s local governments is spending millions of rands on initiatives to reduce serious water losses in the province. Here`s how we can help saving water.

- Harvesting rainwater , using tanks

- Turning off your tap whilst brushing your teeth

- Turn the shower off whilst soaping

- Irrigate your gardens in the evenings or early mornings

- Take shorter showers

- Re-using grey water (bath water, dish water) for toilet flushing, garden irrigation

- Making sure your home is leak free - repair dripping faucets

- Store drinking water in the refrigerator rather than letting the tap run every time you want a glass of water.

- If you have a swimming pool consider getting a new water-saving pool filter

- Report all significant water losses (broken pipes, open hydrants)

Remember water doesn’t have any enemies, try to do one thing each day that will help saving water no matter how minimal the savings every drop counts.

The Nelson Mandel Municipality is urging residents and visitors to the metro to use water sparingly with the supply dam levels still at a critical low. The Municipality expects that the consumption of water will increase by 10ml per day for this festive season. To report water leaks, contact the Municipality on their 24hr toll-free number 0800 205050
